Henar Gonzalez Durantez

Henar joined Herbert Smith Freehills as partner of the competition practice in the Madrid office in April 2015. She has extensive experience in European and Spanish competition law, with special focus on mergers, dawn raids, investigations in cartels and abusive behaviour, anti-trust compliance programmes and state aid matters. Previously, she worked at a Spanish leading law firm, where she was a member of its EU and Competition law practice group for 16 years. She also has experience working in Brussels and trained at the EU Commission, which has enabled her to offer a practical knowledge of the competition legal and policy issues that most commonly affect clients. Her sector expertise is diverse, covering industries such food, consumer goods, retail, pharmaceutical, digital and telecoms, transport, building materials, energy, chemical, banking and insurance, among others. Over the course of her career she has been successfully involved in a large number of filings to the European Commission and the CNMC (the Spanish Competition Authority), as well as in multijurisdictional mergers, cartel cases and investigations for abuse of dominant positions.
